🧱How to Connect to Your Minecraft Java Server

This guide will help you connect to your Minecraft Java Edition server hosted on NordHost. In just a few clicks, you'll be building and exploring with your friends.

Before You Start

Steps to Connect

Open Minecraft

Launch Minecraft Java Edition from the Minecraft Launcher. Make sure you're using the correct game version.

Click Multiplayer

From the main menu, click the "Multiplayer" button to open the server list.

Add Server

Click "Add Server". Enter a name for your server (anything you like) and enter the server address: 123.45.67.89 or 123.45.67.89:25565

Save and Join

Click "Done" to save the server. Select it from your server list and click "Join Server".

About the Port

The default Minecraft port is 25565. If your server uses the default port, you don't need to include it in the address. Just enter the IP: 123.45.67.89

Direct Connect (Quick Join)

For a quick one-time connection without saving:

Direct Connect

From the Multiplayer menu, click "Direct Connection" instead of Add Server.

Enter Server Address

Type your server IP: 123.45.67.89 and click "Join Server".

Troubleshooting

Can't connect to server?

Check that the server is online in your NordHost dashboard. If Smart Sleep is enabled, the server may need up to 60 seconds to wake up after your first connection attempt.

Connection refused?

Verify the IP address is correct. Make sure you're using Minecraft Java Edition, not Bedrock Edition (they're not compatible).

Outdated client/server?

Make sure your Minecraft version matches the server. You can change your version in the Minecraft Launcher under "Installations".

Not whitelisted?

If the server has a whitelist enabled, your Minecraft username needs to be added. Check the whitelist settings in your NordHost dashboard.
