This guide will walk you through connecting to your Valheim dedicated server hosted on NordHost. Whether you're using the in-game server browser or Steam, you'll be raiding with your friends in minutes.
The easiest way to connect to your server.
Launch Valheim from Steam. Click "Start Game" on the main menu, then select your character and click "Start".
Click the "Join Game" tab at the top of the screen to open the server browser.
Click the "Add Server" button. Enter your server IP and port in the format: 123.45.67.89:2456
Select your server from the list and click "Connect". Enter your server password when prompted.
Alternative method using Steam's built-in server browser.
In Steam, click "View" in the top menu, then select "Game Servers".
Go to the "Favorites" tab and click the "+" button to add a new server.
Enter your server IP and port: 123.45.67.89:2456 and click "OK".
Select the server from your favorites and click "Connect". Valheim will launch and connect automatically.
Make sure the server is online by checking your NordHost dashboard. If using Smart Sleep, the server may need up to 60 seconds to wake up. Try connecting directly via IP instead of browsing.
If your server uses Smart Sleep, it may be waking up. Wait 60 seconds and try again. Also verify you're using the correct port (2456).
Check the password in your NordHost dashboard under server settings. Passwords are case-sensitive, so make sure caps lock is off.
Make sure both you and the server are running the same Valheim version. Steam usually updates automatically, but you can verify game files if needed.
